About Oud Warrior

A reference built for a fretless instrument — positions instead of frets, ajnas instead of a strum pattern — for the six-course oud.

The fingerboard first, always

Most instrument references assume frets do the work of naming a note's place. An oud has none, so this site draws every page from the fingerboard outward instead: chords are positioned course by course with the fret-equivalent position and finger named; scales are position maps with every root marked, labelled honestly as a 12-TET reference; and the five ajnas — hijaz, kurd, nahawand, ajam and nikriz — are computed from the registry's real tuning, never typed by hand, alongside a plain account of the quarter-tone maqamat this site refuses to fake.

Hear everything

Every voicing, note map, and drill on the site plays back in the browser, so your ear learns alongside your fingers. The tuner and metronome are free, run entirely on your device, and need no account.

Part of the Warrior Network

Oud Warrior is made by Cyberpunk Industries LLC as part of the Warrior Network. When you want to compare an instrument beyond this one, String Warrior covers every chord and scale on 20+ string instruments — the two sites share their underlying music data, and each writes its own pages for its own players.
